What the lawsuits allege
Beginning in 2021, Exactech recalled hundreds of thousands of knee, hip, and ankle implant components after acknowledging that out-of-specification packaging had exposed polyethylene inserts to oxygen, which makes the plastic brittle and fast-wearing once implanted.
The litigation alleges patients received implants that were compromised before the box was ever opened.
Injuries named in the litigation
- Premature polyethylene insert wear
- Bone loss (osteolysis)
- Implant loosening and instability
- Pain, swelling, and inability to bear weight
- Revision surgery
