“Editorial still-life photograph on a deep navy-blue ground, single soft directional light from the left, muted cool palette with a faint gold accent, generous negative space, no people, no text, no logos, shot on large-format film, a titanium hip implant standing upright like sculpture on a stone plinth”

What the lawsuits allege

Joint replacements are supposed to last fifteen to twenty years. The litigation alleges that specific designs, including metal-on-metal hip systems and certain knee systems with cement-bonding problems, failed early at rates the manufacturers understood and understated.

Claims have been brought against multiple manufacturers, including DePuy, Stryker, Zimmer Biomet, Smith & Nephew, and Exactech.

Injuries named in the litigation

  • Early implant failure or loosening
  • Metallosis (metal poisoning) from metal-on-metal hips
  • Bone loss (osteolysis) and fracture around the implant
  • Chronic pain and instability
  • Revision and replacement surgery
